A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier - Ishmael Beah
This is an excellent book. It's about a boy in Sierra Leone who was thrown into the war and managed to eventually heal from the experience. He describes the destruction of villages and the slaughter of people in disturbing detail and at the same time, describes his old life as a typical little boy. You experience his humanity slowly slipping away as he becomes a killing machine. The book was published to draw attention to the plight of child soldiers but it also shows how war is damaging to all people.
